‘상호관세 폭탄’ D-7 Welcome to Press Perspective for this Wednesday March 26th here in Seoul. I'm Min Sunhee. We are counting down one week to the Trump administration's announcement of reciprocal tariffs and given this time frame today we address the latest regarding the U.S.'s trade policy and its ripple effects. For more I have Celio Fioretti with French daily La Croix. Celio welcome back. I also have Professor Yang Jun-sok at the Catholic University of Korea. Professor Yang as always it's a pleasure. 1) Celio, the Wall Street Journal says the Trump administration may narrow its tariff targets set to start on April 2nd. Do tell us more about this report. 2) Professor Yang, so, according to this article , tariffs on pharmaceuticals, chips, and cars may spared during the April 2nd announcement despite Mr. Trump's earlier threats against these industries. How do you explain this latest backtrack, and what are your thoughts on Trump's practice of issuing an ultimatum and then opting for a reversal with regard to tariffs? 3) Celio, with regard to the auto industry. Back on Monday at the White House, Hyundai Motor pledged a remarkable investment in the U.S. Do fill us in. 4) Professor Yang, back in February, China's state media published a piece about the remarkable resilience of Korea's auto industry against the backdrop of Trump tariffs. This being said, what do you believe makes the Korean auto industry resilient? 5) Meanwhile, Celio, an opinion piece by Reuters claims the second Trump trade war may be "more painful for Asia" than the first. What were the reasons shared for this grim outlook? 6) Professor Yang, also according to this article, South Korea's export share to the U.S. expanded tangibly from 12% in 2018 to 18.7% in 2024. What do you believe were the reasons behind this rise? 7) Celio, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week described 15 nations as "dirty" trade partners for the U.S. Which countries is he speaking about, and why? 8) Professor Yang, we've been saying that South Korea can leverage its shipbuilding industry in addressing tariffs with the U.S. How significant is our shipbuilding industry? 9) And Celio, for the sake of comparison, what can you share with us about the broader impact of Trump's tariffs on the EU?
