최상목 대행 외신 인터뷰, 한국 외교 점검 Hope your workweek is off to a good start. It's Monday March 17th here in Seoul. I'm Min Sunhee. U.S. tariffs and cross-border tensions are among the mounting concerns of the South Korean government as it also hopes for a quick end to the political turmoil here on the domestic front. For more I have Steven Borowiec with Japanese weekly news magazine Nikkei Asia here in the studio. Steven it's good to have you back. I also have freelance journalist Raphael Rashid with us. Raphael welcome back. 1) Steven, the Wall Street Journal published an exclusive interview with acting President Choi Sang-mok and his thoughts about trade with the U.S. under Trump. First, for the sake of our viewers who may not have read the article, do share with us the gist of the article AND what were your takeaways from it? 2) Raphael, the article includes the findings of a Swiss-based research firm that claims South Korea ranks as the most vulnerable to trade risks from the U.S. This being said, Raphael, do you suppose the government is currently doing what it can to address its future trade ties with the Trump administration? 3) And Steven, for the sake of comparison, what's the latest with regard to Canada's response to Trump's tariffs? 4) Also Raphael, speaking as a British journalist based here in Seoul, what can you tell us about the U.K.'s response to the U.S.'s tariff campaign? 5) Steven, South Korea also has refrained from retaliation against Trump's blanket 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports into the U.S. market. Do you believe the Trump administration's tariffs are a negotiation strategy? And if so, what do you suppose are his intentions with regard to South Korea? 6) Meanwhile, Raphael, Mr. Trump, last week, referred to North Korea as a nuclear power yet again, while touting close ties with Kim Jong-un. Are we looking at a shift in U.S. strategy towards North Korea? I mean, when he first used this term, there was talk about it being a slip of the tongue. What are your thoughts? 7) And Steven, what are the broader implications of acknowledging North Korea as a nuclear power? I mean, just last December, at the UN, the U.S. shared concerns that Russia may be close to accepting a nuclear-armed North Korea. 8) Raphael, how does South Korea seek to remain relevant in shaping Washington's policy on North Korea? 9) Moving forward, Steven, once the dust settles over South Korea's political arena, what look to be some of the administration's domestic priorities? 10) Raphael, what should be the South Korean administration's diplomatic priorities as it seeks to ensure trade stability and regional security? All right.
