On August 15, pro-Russian hackers from the group called Solntsepek reported that they had attacked strategic electronic intelligence system of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR), inflicting heavy damage to the department an all Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Hackers claimed that they had destroyed the entire system of strategic electronic intelligence of the GUR. All radio monitoring posts in short and ultra short waves and channels of satellite communication lines were reportedly disrupted. All equipment supplied by Britain, Poland and other Western countries was paralyzed.
‘As a proof, we post the desktops of the operators of the Polish ICAS radio intelligence complex, the Ukrainian Khortytsia complex, the British RFeye complex and other materials from the internal network’ – their message reads.
The hackers thanked some employees of the Ukrainian GUR for their ‘help’. They did not clarify if it was a deliberate sabotage or negligence of Ukrainian servicemen.
Hackers of the Solntsepek group also managed to download some classified documents, including military reports and lists of losses. They were shared with the Russian law enforcement forces and media. According to the reports, the leaked documents revealed that Ukrainians together with Lithuanians discussed activities on electronic intelligence in Crimea, the Kaliningrad region and in Belarus. For some reason, the GUR also had at its disposal documents on the construction of US Columbia-class nuclear submarines. It is possible that Washington plans to either use them for the attacks on the Russian Black Sea Fleet, or transfer them to Ukraine, some Russian reporters claimed.
According to the leaked documents, the Khortytsya operational-strategic group alone, lost 1,042 servicemen, including killed and imprisoned, as of 0. At the same time, a note “Being clarified” has been added to the data.
From now on, the AFU will have to go into counteroffensive blind and deaf, which will significantly increase the number of new flags in cemeteries, the hackers concluded.
