Another Turkish Drone Strike Hit SDF Territory In Northern Syria (Vide…
On July 30, a Turkish combat drone carried out a strike on the center of Tell Rifaat town in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.
The town is controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). However, both the Syrian Arab Army and the Russian Military Police maintain a presence there.
A video that surfaced online showed smoke rising from Tell Rifaat center after the Turkish drone strike. The Hawar News Agency, which is affiliated with the SDF, said that the strike resulted in some material losses only.
This was the third Turkish drone strike to hit SDF territory in northern and eastern Syria in less than a week. On July 27, a drone strike destroyed two vehicles of the group between the towns of Khaznah and Tell Marouf in the northeastern countryside of al-Hasakah, killing three fighters and wounding two others. The next day, July 28, a strike targeted a training camp of the group near the town of Khirbat Khwi in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. Four fighters were killed and eight others were wounded.
The SDF responded to the first two strikes by attacking two military positions near the Turkish-occupied town of Kaljibrin in the northern Aleppo countryside on July 29. Five militants of the 50th Division, a faction of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, were killed during the attack. It is possible that the last strike was a retaliation to the deadly attack.
It’s worth noting that Turkey escalated its artillery and drone strikes on SDF territory in northern and eastern Syria recently in what appears to be an attempt to deter the group.
