U.S. Is Creating ‘Free Army’ In Raqqa To Destabilize Syria: Russia’s U…
The United States is creating a “Free Syria Army” faction near the northern Syrian city of Raqqa in order to destabilize the war-torn country, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya warned on May 30.
“We would like to once again point to the U.S. destructive policy. It looks like it is not enough for the U.S. to simply supply weapons to illegal armed groups they created in al-Tanf and on the Euphrates eastern bank,” the senior diplomat said at a UN Security Council meeting.
According to Nebenzya, the new faction will include terrorists of ISIS and other terror groups as well as local Arab tribesmen.
The U.S. wants to use the faction as a proxy against Syria’s legitimate authorities and to destabilize the situation in the country, the diplomat added.
Also on May 30, Sergey Naryshkin, director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, revealed that the U.S. is seeking to obstruct the normalization of Syria’s relations with the Arab world and is training ISIS terrorists at one of its bases in the country to destabilize the situation.
“Washington does not hide its irritation at Syria’s successes and would like to reverse the emerging trends,” the press office of the intelligence service quoted Naryshkin as saying, “As the customary [proxy] tool for implementing their subversive plans, the American intelligence services once again intend to use Islamic extremists, now known as the moderate opposition.”
According to the Russian intelligence chief, the U.S. is training the terrorists at al-Tanf garrison in Syria’s southeastern region.
“Dozens of ISIS fighters are being trained there, and their ranks are regularly replenished by the Americans, who release terrorists from prisons in the occupied northeastern part of Syria. Small arms, ammunition and anti-tank missile systems are being delivered by truck to the training camps.” Naryshkin said.
“What stands out here is the utter cynicism of the missions that the US handlers have tasked the gang leaders with. Among the priority targets are places of mass public gatherings, stores and government institutions,” the intelligence chief added.
The U.S. maintains some 900 troops between oil and gas fields in northern and eastern Syria and al-Tanf garrison in the southeast of the country.
Washington claims that its military presence in the country is meant to counter ISIS. However, its operations against the terrorist group are decreasing. Meanwhile, it is expanding its bases and deploying heavy weapons against the Syrian military and its allies.
The attempts to destabilize Syria could soon backfire at the U.S. American troops in the country are already facing more threats than before.
