According to preliminary reports by several Russian military sources, on the evening of August 12, the Russian military withdrew from the village of Urozhainoe located on the border of the Zaporozhie region and the Donetsk People’s Republic.

After the Russian military lost control of the village of Staromayorskoe, which came in the grey zone on July 27, the Armed Forces of Ukraine increased their constant attacks on Urozhainoe located on the eastern flank of the Russian grouping, in an attempt to secure their stronghold in the area.

As a result of prolonged battles and despite heavy losses, the AFU recently managed to enter the northern outskirts of the village several times, but could not gain a foothold in the settlement and were repelled by the Russian military.

After another wave of massive shelling, new Ukrainian assault units attacked the village from several directions and entered the northern outskirts. According to preliminary reports, this time their attacks forced Russian forces to retreat.

The Russian military sources claimed that the Russian grouping faced problems with insufficient counterbattery fire. As a result, the assault Ukrainian groups were well covered by Ukrainian artillery.

Trying to at least partially improve their positions, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation reportedly launched a counterattack in the area of Staromayorskoe, which is located on the opposite bank of the Wet Yaly River.

If taken, the control of the village of Urozhainoe will only allow the exhausted Ukrainian units approach one of the first key lines of Russian defenses on the southern frontlines. However, taking into account Ukrainian ‘victories’ in Staromayorskoe, Rabotino, Pytikhatki, the ruins of Urozhainoe are likely to remain in the grey zone in the nearest future.
