Kiev Forces Step Up Attacks On Bakhmut In Desperate Attempt To Mimic W…
Kiev forces have reportedly stepped up their attacks against the Russian military in the Bakhmut direction in a desperate attempt to mimic the tactics the Wagner Group first used to capture the city last May.
On August 3 and 4, Kiev forces launched several attacks towards Berkhovka to the north of Bakhmut and Klescheevka to the north.
The Ukrainians are apparently planning to flank the city from both directions, cut Russian supply lines and then launch direct assault. The plan is a mirrored copy of Wagner’s successful attack on Bakhmut.
Ukrainian troops made some gains and captured several high positions near Berkhovka as well as close to Klescheevka and the nearby settlements of Andreevka and Kurdyumovka in recent weeks. However, they sustained heavy losses and failed to break through Russian defenses or cut any key supply line.
Kiev forces will likely further escalate their attacks on Bakhmut in the upcoming weeks to make a breakthrough at any cost.
Meanwhile in other directions, Kiev forces continue to sustain heavy losses. In the Kherson direction, the artillery of the Russian Dnepr Group of Forces destroyed a D-30 towed howitzer near Sofiyevka, two Msta-B towed howitzers close to Chernobayevka and Tomarino as well as a 2B11 mortar in the outskirts of Kherson city.
The group’s anti-tank units foiled an attempt by Kiev forces to deploy troops in the Belogrudov and Damanskiy islands as well as on the Dnepr River shore. Four speedboats and up to twenty troops were destroyed.
In addition, the group detected then destroyed a Spanish-made Spada 2000 air defense system with a Lancet loitering munition.
In the Kupyansk direction, Su-34 fighter bombers of the Russian Zapad Group of Forces carried out two airstrikes against a forward command post and a gathering of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade near Petropavlovka.
The group also captured several strongholds and defeated an infantry platoon from the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade in the area of the Mankovka tract. In the same area, the group’s artillery destroyed a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and a Msta-B towed howitzer.
In addition, the group destroyed two artillery pieces near Sandy Lower, a Nona-S mortar and a Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer as well as a BM-21 multiple rocket launcher in another area.
A Tor air defense system of the group also shot down a A1-CM Furia reconnaissance drone of Kiev forces close to Gorobyovka.
It’s worth noting that Russian news sources also shared footage showing the destruction of two artillery pieces and an infantry fighting vehicle of Kiev forces with Lancet loitering munitions in different directions.
Nine weeks into their counteroffensive, Kiev forces appear to be desperate to make any achievement. The Kiev regime does not seem to be bothered by the heavy human and material losses sustained by its forces.
